Terrorist ringleader’s death penalty upheld by Iran Supreme Court

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's Supreme Court has confirmed a death penalty against Jamshid Sharmahd, an Iranian-German national who led a terrorist ring that was behind major terrorist atatcks in the country in recent years.

The Supreme Court said on Wednesday that judges in the counrt had confirmed the death sentence for Sharmahd for his involvement in terrorism and corruption on earth, among other charges.

The ruling came after Sharmahd appealed to the Supreme Court and after an Iranian court sentenced him to capital punishment on February 21.

Sharmahd has led Tondar, terrorist group based in the United States that has orchestrated scores of attacks in Iran. 

He was arrested in a complicated operation by the Iranian security forces in August 2020.

Tondar, or the Kingdom Assembly of Iran, also known as Soldiers of the Kingdom Assembly of Iran, is an armed monarchist terrorist group seeking to overthrow the ruling government and restore the monarchy in Iran.

It claimed responsibility for a 2008 explosion at the Hosseynieh Seyed al-Shohada in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz which killed 14 people, including children, and left 215 others injured.
